Fabric painting-Blending--DIY-Three flowers

"Draw for the love for Drawing"-Famous Quote

Hello everyone..

Today, I have posted a hand drawn flower painting on a poplin fabric.. The technique used to color this picture is "Blending"..

Things needed:

A clean and ironed Poplin Fabric:
Poplin is a fabric woven with criss cross ribs of any fiber such as cotton, wool, silk, etc., which gives it a strong texture and it prevents any paint from oozing down through it. White poplin works well with most acrylic or fabric colors but any color fabric is fine. Buy Poplin cloth here

Many Different colors of Acrylic/Fabric paints

Paint Brushes
  1. A Flat Brush No:2 or 3(For color filling)
  2. A lettering Brush No:000 or 00(For outlining)

Short and Stiff bristles are preferable..

Painting Frame
A painting frame helps to tighten the fabric and holds it in the stretched form.

Other Essentials:
  1. An old cloth for cleaning brushes in between changing colors
  2. An old piece of card or paper to place under the fabric
  3. Clean water
  4. A mixing tray(Optional in case we want to mix certain colours)

Technique:

Blending is a wonderful and subtle technique, that makes our painting realistic.. As the name suggests, in this technique,  two are more colors are blended using a water loaded flat brush to give a different effect to the painting..

There are three steps in blending..
  1. Base color filling
  2. Outlining
  3. Blending
Base color filling is the same process of filling the entire area with color using a short flat brush.. For illustration of color filling, please refer to my pink flowers post.

Outlining is done only on a selected area where we want the second color to be blended with the first color..

Blending is done by loading the flat brush with water and gently brushing on the outline and slowly mixing the outline color with the base color..

All these steps are illustrated below..

The pattern is hand drawn on the fabric..

For the top layer of the petals, the base color is lemon yellow and outline is crimson..

Now the outline is blended into the base color..

When done for all petals, the painting looks like this..

Now for the botton layer, the base color is light pink and the outline is crimson..

Now these two colors are blended using a water loaded flat brush..

The flower center is painted crimson ..Now, comes the leaf..With base color lemon yellow and outlined with light green ..

The leaves are blended..

The outline is done with black..

Now some tiny detailing is done on the flower center..

The finished painting..
